When routine care stops being enough
Regular testing and filter cleaning solve many everyday issues. Sometimes, however, the condition of the water or surfaces shows that a more thorough reset is needed.
These seven signs are useful prompts. They do not diagnose a technical fault, but they can help you decide when to arrange a professional clean.
1. Cloudy water keeps returning
Cloudiness can have several causes, including poor filtration, an incorrect chemical balance or a high level of dissolved contaminants. If adjustments only provide a short-lived improvement, the hot tub may benefit from being drained and cleaned properly.
2. There is a persistent unpleasant smell
Clean, correctly maintained hot tub water should not have a strong unpleasant odour. A persistent smell can suggest that the water quality, filters or hidden pipework need attention.
3. Foam remains after water adjustments
Some bubbles are normal when the jets are running. Thick foam that sits on the surface can be linked to detergents, cosmetics, body oils or other contaminants. If it keeps returning, a deep clean may be appropriate.
4. Surfaces feel slimy
Shell surfaces, headrests and areas around fittings should not feel slippery or slimy. A film that returns after wiping is a clear reason to stop using the tub until it has been assessed and cleaned.
5. The filters remain dirty
Filters work continuously to capture debris. If they clog quickly, remain discoloured after cleaning or appear damaged, the wider hot tub may need attention. Replacement may also be necessary, depending on their age and condition.
6. There is visible scale or staining
Scale around the waterline, jets or fittings can indicate an ongoing water-balance issue. Staining and residue should be handled with products and methods suitable for the hot tub surface.
7. You cannot remember the last complete clean
If the tub has only been topped up and treated for a long period, it may be overdue for a complete water change and deep clean. For many homes, reviewing the condition every three to four months is a useful starting point. See how often a professional deep clean may be needed.
What to do next
Avoid adding large quantities of chemicals without understanding the underlying issue. Stop using the tub if the water or surfaces appear unsafe, and seek appropriate advice.
We can review the condition, access and work required before providing an individual quotation. Technical faults are outside our current service and may need a repair specialist.
